Most of the stops along the way are for pipe makers, pipe collectors and the like. Some of them (yes, Florence) are because I'm bringing my girlfriend and heeding the good advice of an industry veteran: "if you want a longterm relationship with this woman, make sure you don't spend every last minute you're in Italy in pipe maker's workshops. You'll still be hearing about it thirty years from now if you do." So, Reims and Florence are in the interest of long term domestic happiness (and, yes, ok, I'm super excited about them also) and the rest are pipe visits.

You should track down Donatello's Saint George that he did for the Armorer's Guild in Florence, while you're there. There's a bronze copy in the marble original's place, but they also have the latter on display in a museum. If someone were to happen to abscond with either one, and then deliver it to a certain discrete location, a man might consider withholding from a certain intern a certain anecdote about a certain incident in which a certain person may or may not have suggested unicorns were real animals you could make things out of.

While you are in Italy, track down Tonino Jacono (Jacono Pipes) in Jesi; Luciano Catini (Catini Pipes) in Fermo; Bruto Sordini (Don Carlos pipes) in Cagli. I wanted to hit their workshops when I went in December, but the weather shot those plans down.
I can see that those are kind of off your track, but if your plans change they seem like nice folks.
