Video: Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen VII
The new Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen VII shape is a little special. For the first time, Stanwell is trying to tie it all together a little bit, presenting the first 3,000 pipes in a presentation box, complete with a Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. The shape was designed by Poul Winslow with the particular fairytale in mind. Anyway, I'll let Soren Lundh Aagaard, Managing Director of Stanwell, do the talking...
An interesting thing I learned while talking to Soren was when he referred to the Churchwarden pipe as a "reading pipe". Apparently, that was the original purpose of the Churchwarden, so when you look down at the book in your lap, the smoke doesn't go in your eyes.
That actually happens sometimes if I have my laptop in my lap and I look down to type.
I like Soren's red pants too.
Yes, there's a ton of stuff not available in the US (and some stuff in the US not available elsewhere too). We brought a bunch of those in and have carried them for a couple of years. We run into a couple of snags, though. First, we have to carry a lot more than we normally do. Secondly, a lot of the shapes not available in the US (not the two you mention) are 9mm. And, actually, it has to be in production for us to be able to get it. So, if it's a shape they made in, say, the 1990s, but no longer do, we can't get it unless they revitalize it for another project (or we're willing to buy ridiculous numbers of them). Every once in awhile we see a 51 as a Golden Danish or Zebrano. The 61 is even harder to come by. We had one as a zebrano in, oh, about 2006, and had one estate a couple of years ago.
