Danish Estates: Bjarne Handmade Smooth Bent Dublin (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-001-5791
The legendary Bjarne Neilsen was known as the "Ambassador of Pipes", a larger-than-life Dane who earned the title from his work as a minister of commerce for the Danish government in the seventies, helping importers make connections with Danish companies to buy products. Though he never actually made a pipe himself, he eventually owned a prominent pipe making company and employed artisans like Mogens Johansen, Ph. Vigen and Tonni Nielsen. I cannot be certain, but I get a get a strange feeling that this piece was designed by Nielsen, as I've seen pieces with this specific look of Danish stylization, from the smoothly minimalist gesture to the effortless heel to bowl transition (Nielsen counts Jess Chonowitsch as a major influence, after all).
