Danish Estates: Sixten Ivarsson Smooth (19) (1961)

Product Number: 004-001-6374

There is no shortage of information about the man who was the sun source of the Danish pipe revolution. There is also no secret surrounding the paucity of estate pipes created by Sixten Ivarsson: to have one for sale, you first have to find a collector that will part with one. We try (Lord knows, we try), and our best efforts have resulted in obtaining only 13 Sixten Ivarsson briars compared to roughly 6800 other Danish Estates.

My knee-jerk reaction, when I first saw this Ivarsson from a distance, was that he had created an "Opera pipe". Closer inspection leaves me thinking this execution was a (very) early harbinger of the Sail; the similarities are too close for me to discount the idea altogether. Yes, the condition statement of this 1961 Sixten is lengthy, as well a highly recommended read for any collector considering its acquisition. Having said, it is a serviceable Sixten, and one with a next-to-unseen shape.
