After 1984, Per and Ulf took over the S. Bang workshop because they wanted to make pipes slightly differently. Some pre-1984 pieces were shaped much like Freehands and other classics, and sported pre-form stems (this one is hand-cut). Increasing the quality to making nothing but hand-cut stems on their already beautiful shapes, post-1984 pipes have become the gold standard for Bang pieces. While it might be difficult to pin-point the exact date of one of their pipes, the stamping gives a division year. "Copenhagen" is pre-1984, while "Kobenhavn" is 1984-present. Given the quality and construction of this one, my guess would be within a year of the transition.
