Danish Estates: Peter Heeschen Smooth Bent Dublin Sitter with Tulipwood (A)

Product Number: 004-001-6557

Often, we have a running quip here about whether to title a given Heeschen as either an apple or a brandy. Except for those rare occasions when Peter executes the latter with a pronounced verticality, frankly the shapes can be awfully close. This isn't the case with the Heeschen sitter-Dublin and Cherrywood. The body of the latter features a conical base, giving the sense that the surface upon which it sits forms the "ground" out of which the pipe grows. With this sitter-Dublin, "conical" really comes much closer to "cone", the base being so small that it resembles a point. The totality takes my mind to a spinning top, with the forward cant held steady as if by some unseen gyroscopic action. I guess, in a totally abstract sense, it would be cool to have a pipe that spun, delicately balanced on a tiny point. But spinning grain would be considerably more difficult to appreciate in full, and when it eventually wobbled and tilted to the side, there would be all that clean up...
