About This Pipe
This is a bit of a departure for Poul Ilsted. I have become very accustomed to seeing his dramatic panel work, but with this piece, he has rendered a fairly straight forward, conservative Danish volcano. His bevel work is far from totally absent in this pipe. Close the ninety degrees on the right side of the bowl has a panel to counter the rounding of the remaining two hundred and seventy, and this theme repeats in the shank. The grain of this piece is straight and angel hair fine, and holds for the shank, as well as the sides of the bowl. This pipe is unsmoked. Perhaps someone out there can remedy this.
