English Estates: Dunhill Shell Patent (RL) (F/T) (1950)
Product Number: 004-002-7200
While certainly not the oldest Dunhill I've ever seen, this straight Pot definitely has some serious vintage to it - a bit over 60 years worth. And that's a good vintage to have, given that 1950 falls within a period where you'll find some of the deepest and craggiest sandblasts Dunhill ever produced. The dulling of the finish around the upper part of the bowl's right-rear quarter, where your thumb would rest with the pipe in your left hand, suggests it was certainly enjoyed quite a bit, yet the fine condition of the finish everywhere else, as well as the excellent condition of the stem and the stamping, and the good condition of the rim, has me thinking it was only ever smoked much by a single owner (one with a preference for keeping his pipes in his left hand) and that good care was taken.
