This Ferndown is, for the most part, about on par in size with my own Dunhill Group 5 bent Dublin. Where it differs in proportions is height - this plateau-crowned briar is about a good quarter inch taller, with the extra chamber depth to match. But from a Ferndown perspective, this doesn't make for an unusually large briar; it makes for one with rather trim proportions. Les Wood worked at Dunhill for years, but when he founded his own marque, you see, he kept the taste for classic shapes, but evidently decided to make his at such scales that pipes the size of Group 5s and 6s, and even ODAs, were about "average".
