While Dunhill Patents typically go for quite a pretty penny, the replacement stem on this one takes a huge bite out of the price. It is not the best job I've seen, but it's serviceable. More importantly, the briar itself remains solid and quite handsome. If it were my money I'd just have the stem redone; there are still a number of highly skilled repairers out there. The result might not be a big collector's item, but it would be a fine old English pipe with plenty of classic character, and at a final cost still on par with many a modern mass-produced briar.
