English Estates: Ashton Sovereign Partially Rusticated Apple (Capt. Earle)

Product Number: 004-002-7438

Ashton Sovereigns are pretty rare in general, but this is only the second 'Capt. Earle' that I have ever bumped into. Captain Earle is a series of pipe blends marketed by Hermit Tobacco Works (though I believe that Cornell & Diehl is the original manufacturing source), and is named in honor of a Whaling Captain who sailed out of New Bedford. Unlike the standard Sovereigns (though there is precious little 'standard' about an Ashton Sovereign), the Capt. Earle series replaced an all smooth surface with a partial rustication, such as the etched tobacco leaves that you now see before you
