What was once a hasty battlefield repair, born of necessity within the crucible of early 20th century trench warfare, often remains paired with what many historians believe to have been the most popular shape of the same era. (Yes, from 1910 to the mid 1920s, even the Billiard was outdone by the Bulldog and Rhodesian.) While I'll grant you that it indicates that I really need to get a life, I can't help but be fascinated when a pairing that started out as a bodge gains a continuity, and that continuity becomes an embraced norm. Ice tea would be a great example... but I digress. Looking at this lovely (and unsmoked) "08" Bulldog with sterling army mount, it's quite easy to see the look became replicated, and why it remains so incredibly popular today.
