New!  English Estates: Dunhill Root Briar (4) (R) (36) (1974)

Product Number: 004-002-7667

The Dunhill "Root Briar" finish was first introduced in 1931, and has been noted for its more pronounced quality of grain; therefore, it is usually the most expensive of Dunhill's pipes, and somewhat of a rarity. The "R" stamping denotes the finish on this piece, which was probably made of Corsican briar, which was common for "Root Briar" because it was more finely grained - but that being said, this piece does not bear the quality we are used to in today's standards. In the old days, grain like this would have been a superb example of the English's preference for cross cut grain on the front and back of the bowl, with birdseye on the sides.
