English Estates: Ashton Pebble Grain Bent Panel (XXX) (1998)
Product Number: 004-002-7725
Bill Ashton Taylor held a long tenure at Dunhill, so its only logical that he would look to the great English classics as a source of inspiration. Having said that, it's also natural that he would want to rebel - to "kill off the father", as they say. The sandblast, for instance, is deeper and more defined than anything Dunhill would produce (shy of a Ring Grain), and the shape - a bent Panel/Poker/Billiard - would be considered heresy, when held up against their shape chart. We must remember that all art beings in imitation and ends in innovation, and Ashton was smart not to become another Dunhill, because that innovation led to the company's popularity and economic prosperity.
