English Estates: Comoy's Selected Straight Grain Pot (126) (1950s-1970s)

Product Number: 004-002-7801

"Selected Straight Grain" is a stamping that can cause a lot of confusion, and I'll lay that confusion squarely at Comoy's feet. The problem, you see, is that they used this stamp for two very different grades; without a Comoy's stamp, for a line of "seconds", and with a Comoy's stamp, for briars that were made for the Specimen grade, but that didn't quite make the cut, and were sold as a series just below the famed Blue Riband. Suffice to say that examples of the latter, like this broad-chambered Pot, are the far more desirable of the two to collectors.
