The Dunhill County finish is an answer for people wanting a classic English pipe with, what appears to be, a contrast blast. It is not, however. Dunhill started making these by sandblasting classic shapes fit with cumberland stems, staining them dark red, and then buffing the bejeezus out of the wood. The abrasive buffing stripped and polished the high peaks of the wood, leaving a somewhat natural color of polished areas, while the valleys remained stained.
