The rim might look like plateau, but it isn't. Because plateau is the bark of the burl, and the grain grows from inside to out, plateau on a rim will only be on a relatively straight grain pipe. Still, many people like the look of such a texture, and just as many enjoy the classic, clear GBD stem.
