When it comes to pipes, shape always wins over grain. This Irwin's offering is a superb rendition of the straight, squat Bulldog. While the grain on the right side of the bowl matches the shape quite well, the left is pretty much a whorl. Doesn't bother me, though, as the focus of having shape match grain wasn't so important when early briars were made.
