About This Pipe

Dunhill has change their stamping systems several times throughout their century-plus time on this earth, something which can prove either fascinating or frustrating, depending on a particular pipe. or how many of them you have to assess before a deadline. The five-digit code on this rather sinuous, playful and jaunty-looking bent Dublin was introduced by Bill Ashton-Taylor in the mid-1970s, and while the first four digits follow the same logic as contemporary stampings, the fifth specifically indicated what was considered a "variant" shape. That is to say, this is Group 3, saddle-stemmed "14" shape, variant "4,"

All that aside, put simply, I like this pipe. The flow and gesture has character, a dark walnut finish never goes out of style, it's fine in hand, quite light in the jaw, and despite being pretty svelte in form, this old Dunhill still offers plenty of chamber.
