The first time I was aware of Joura pipes, I was in San Antonio, TX at a pipe and cigar store rather close to the Alamo. My fraternity had a convention down there, and I was walking around in my suit and tie in the sweltering summer of 2002. Our hotel was across the street from the landmark, and I went there about 30 times. There was also a great tobacco shop nearby, which I had the pleasure of browsing around. I ended up purchasing some pipe tobacco, Packards nasal snuff, and a pipe magazine I've never encountered before. The magazine had articles about German pipe makers and Joura was one of the features. His pipes are coveted by collectors and, with one glance at this stunning, unsmoked Horn, no explanation for their popularity is needed.
