About This Pipe

As used as we are today to seeing the term "Deluxe" applied to Peterson's silver-mounted System pipes, the vulcanite army mount and stem of this early 20th century briar might seem a bit odd. However, we should bear in mind that once upon a time vulcanite was indeed a luxury material; vulcanite stems, for example, were an option that commanded a higher price than those made from amber. The de-luxe vulcanite, as well as the choice briar and dark walnut finish (the real defining characteristics of "De Luxe" Peterson's of this vintage) on this example have all survived the past nine-decades-and-change in surprisingly well-preserved condition.
