With a quick glance, this Il Ceppo seems to be a fine, if a bit ordinary, Lumberman. But a closer inspection reveals a marvelous effort in the shaping of this briar. After that first glance, your eye might notice the "oval" shank is not quite oval, and you notice a line or two. When inspected, you'll find the shank is actually octagonal. The sandblasted finish is handsome enough from across the room, but when examined closer, the walnut stain reveals a wonderful ring grain rising up the bowl to a polish rime.
