This Prince of Wales is of the freehand persuasion, but the artisan seems to have taken more liberty with the rustication than anything else. The large hunk of briar is just that, simple, thick walled, adequately balanced. If it had been left like this, the pipe would have felt far from finished. The flattened "skillet" rustication on the heel, is a move I've never seen before. Likewise the grunge-esque shank, with its seemingly animalistic scrape, displays something of the unusual, something of the violent, and something of the grotesquely beautiful.
