We all know Ser Jacopo's artisans are masters of shaping - that goes without saying - but what is so exceptional about this piece is the way the shape of this particular bent Billiard is oriented according to the grain. Maybe it is less apparent to you, given the limitations of photography, but the ripples of the shock wave of ring-grain on the left-hand flank of the bowl perfectly correspond to the confident lift of the shank and transition's bend. Absolutely beautiful. On the right-hand flank it's more obvious the texture is choppy birdseye, but I feel it complements the adjacent texture - letting it play the "soloist", so to speak. And let's not forget the warm inlay of briar on the stem, adding a slight tonal shift in palette.
