Over the past eleven years we've received two-dozen Billiards straight from Smiou Satou himself. Granted that may make for an average of only about two a year, but still, it was more than I expected to find in our archives, given that it's a shape he tends to take such a conservative approach to, compared not only to his renditions of other classics, but also in contrast to often very daring freehand shapes, the latter tending to be the ones that most stick to one's memory. Fitting in with this trend, this briar is presented in a classic style; a bit of Danish here, a good dose of English there (particularly in the firm heel and taper of the bowl). Aside perhaps from the rich red finish with its underlying glow, and the exceptional, densely ring-grained sandblast, this is the kind of Billiard you might have expected to see made by one of the early Danish masters.
