Sale!  Japanese Estates: Tsuge Ikebana Smooth Bent Dublin (D) (1990)

Product Number: 004-007-0520

This Tsgue Ikebana bent Dublin conveys the sense of being as smooth and effortless as a Japanese ink drawing, the lines a subtle calligraphy which starts quietly at the bit, then in a long stroke, brushing straight into the bowl, and organically flourishes into a irregular slice of soft dynamism. Though Tsuge is often compared with Danish pipemakers, for which they proudly display without reservation, the Japanese tradition of this piece stands to dominate any perceived influence. There is a liquidity of flow, that is often seen in the best Danish work, but there is a strong, masculine solidity within that current. The pipe is left with no frivolous accents - trademark Tsuge - save the dappled plateaued rim and long hanging curtains of flame grain, with short swipes caressed along its thick, tapering shank.
