I'm not sure that we will ever see a pipe shape from Ichi Kitahara that appears as if it were plucked off of a shape chart; Kitahara takes a fluidity that is inherent within a shape and allows that characteristic to logically extend. For Kitahara-san, this novel variant on the Brandy is about as close to the standard as he is likely to get. The bowl begins rather classically at the heel, and then is subtly tugged to the right of the smoker, the rim being allowed to spill effortlessly to the direct rear. The straight grain of this composition is quite solid, only washing a tad at the right front of the bowl.
