"Miscellaneous" estates are quite a grab bag - you might find half a dozen pipes of obscure origins at basket-pipe prices, and then next thing you know up pops something like this Peter Matzhold. It is, as you would expect of Peter, a fine and handsome execution of the straight Billiard, seamlessly smooth but not too soft of style, retaining a good sense of forthright masculinity in its form and posture. The flame grain is fine, the finish clean and clear, the chamber deep, and to top it all off, it's still mint and unsmoked.
