Here the boldly gestural flow (and just sheer unusual-ness overall) brings to mind Pesaro, the bowl-form Japanese, and the dramatic and defined transition, Rainer Barbi. While the first two are just me going by the judgement of my own eye, the Rainer Barbi influence is a pretty safe bet: Dirk made a point of highlighting a Barbi design sketch he keeps in his workshop, as part of a photo-shoot featured on his website
. It's a strange concoction, but Dirk pulled it off, and from grain placement to drilling this briar shows his dedication to making sure his collectors get every penny's worth out of the pipes he creates.
