A little while back I found myself engaged in a debate (to use the term loosely) with the boss's wife regarding the superiority of dogs over cats. During the course of our
conversation, I pointed out to her (and everyone else who was listening) that dogs were the first animal to be domesticated by man because canines were clearly a first-rate lot. Following that our ancestors tried cats. Having learned from that mistake, there came the horse. The horse had three great advantages over the cat: 1) They were nothing like a cat. 2) In many ways as a companion, they are like a big, herbivorous dog. 3) You can ride them; towards enemies, away from enemies, or just for fun. And with this meerschaum, now you can even smoke a pipe with one.
