This is a strikingly handsome piece from Peter Matzhold. The grain is very impressive, however, it's the shape of the pipe that really stands out here. Cut to show off an incredible cross-grain, Peter's pinched out a sharp seam in the face of the bowl, which he then turned to travel down the right side of the piece and into the base of the flat bottomed shank. The shank is capped with a thin wafer of boxwood, in Matzhold's usual conservatively understated fashion, and is then fitted with a half-saddle vamplate-style stem. The lightweight piece feels really outstandingly comfortable in the hand, and is sure to make for a fantastic smoker.
