About This Pipe
Peter Matzhold generally doesn't stain his pipe as dark as this, which leads me to believe that the lovely color has developed as a result of careful smoking and a rich patina has developed. When the oils in tobaccos and oils in our hands combine on the warm surface of briar, such a lovely thing can and will happen. The striking panels - replete with birdseye - flank the bowl while ultra-fine cross grain dresses the remainder of the body.
