While head figurals make up an impressive percentage of meerschaum executions, they surely must be one of the toughest subjects to nail down. First, a carver has to absolutely nail a subject that we encounter more than any other (can't say I have actually run into a ton of Phoenix, presenting me with an egg). Second, deviations as small as fractions of a millimeter in the execution of the eyes can radically alter the viewers impression. This is a well made meerschaum, which just happens to feature the visage of a gent who (apparently) was just informed by his daughter that she is running off with a garage band promoter.
