American Estates: Kaywoodie Carburetor Smooth Zulu (01) (U.S. Patent)
Product Number: 004-009-5562
Through the long history of the smoking pipe, countless engineering gimmicks have cropped up, ranging from the Peterson System drilling, which has proven its effectiveness with over a century of wide-spread popularity, to carbon-fiber chamber linings, which I read about being the next big thing once but have never yet seen even one example of in person. The "carbureted" bowl falls somewhere in between; quite a few were made, apparently, but they never acquired long-term popularity. The idea was to include a metal fitting in the underside of the bowl, allowing the chamber to breathe a little more, and to draw some cooler air in with your smoke.
