About This Pipe

The Japanese word "Shibumi" has no real English equivalent. Some of the rough translations include "a sense of great refinement underlying surface simplicity", and "poignancy found within articulate brevity". Todd Johnson's work is imbued with shibumi, the previously mentioned attributes readily in evidence at a glance. This fugu is compact, but without any sense of the abrupt. The edge of the central bevel becomes painfully beautiful at the nadir of the heel. The boxwood at the mount is the perfect embellishment.
