Chacom: Match Bent Apple (179)

Product Number: 002-512-1015

This Match bent Apple is the kind of pipe that engages in a bit of mimicry, in this case, sporting the flattened bowl the pocket Oval or Opera shape. Not that it has confidence issues, or anything. Quite the opposite, actually; the profile is pretty confident.

Originally the Oval was conceived to be the ideal pocket pipe, given that its bowl was flatly designed, almost like a wallet, and would not alter the lines of tailored formal wear. The only problem, however, lay in the oval's chamber, meant to get the most capacity out of the flat shape. They simply proved too finicky for most, as far as keeping an even burn going. The Match's creators were aware of this flaw and did well not to pass the unorthodox drilling on; but they did, however, keep the Oval's unique stylization, which also happens to make a pipe this small noticeably less finicky in hand.
