”Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste..”
This shape, one which we always title as a Mushroom (it is), is a signature of Daniel’s and usually one of his first shapes to be snatched up. It also is a shape which, when a staff member picks one up, inevitably evokes a “Hey, Rolling Stones!” out of the beholder. As a pipe-guy who has, at this very moment, about a dozen Stones tunes on the CD in his hog, I would be lying if I didn’t admit to having the same thought. On a lark, I just talked to Muki and asked if he had ever thought of creating one of these with a deep crimson rim? I could almost hear him blinking – “Would it be a bad business move to tell my describer that he was crazier than an outhouse rat?!” Instead, I received a question to my question, “Wouldn’t that totally hide a good grain?” Mustran/sensibility - 1, Bear/lunacy – 0.
In keeping with Daniel’s established aesthetic, this ‘Shroom sports a superb accessorizing exotic wood – spalted tamarind – the shape is playful and full of movement. In something of a different move, Mustran elected to replace the usual “stalk” stem with one of a rolling, highly dynamic gesture, which suits the composition to perfection (the business end of the bit is thin). I can’t say enough about the grain (the pictures do a rather good job of taking care of that anyway), and this Mustran signature not only feels great in the paw, it's also a sitter.
