Christened “Periscope” by Croatian pipe-master-in-process, Daniel “Muki” Mustran, while not an exact analog to any shape which comes to mind, I felt an immediate sense of familiarity upon laying eyes upon it. The bowl is a generously proportioned speederDublinsitter (hey, if the German language allows for one word attribute building, so can I) and presents a dense cross-grain on the rim and sides of the bowl (picture #s 1-3) which suits the velocity theme to perfection.
Muki has used a straight, composition reinforcing run of exotic wood (in this case, padauk) and acrylic to back up speeder bowls before, but this is the first one which I have seen expand in its rearward travels. The acrylic exhaust port/bit is extremely comfortable (the number of cellophane bit covers I go through in a month might amaze you), and the color is a fine complement to the band of padauk, increasing the visual cohesion of an already solidly unified presentation. As far as its stability as a sitter, I doubt that anything shy of 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis hitting it would cause a tip-over. Great stuff, as usual, from Daniel.
