Having formerly had success as a luthier, I expect Grant Batson is a man with a proper appreciation for a pleasing "S" curve. This take on the challenging Ramses design would certainly suggest as much as well. It's hard to believe he's only been making pipes for but a few years - even though he began learning the art of woodworking from his father as young boy. Briar is a difficult material, and creating a functional, beautiful pipe a task requiring some very specific skills. This flame-grained, finely-balanced sitter, however, stands as proof that Batson is up to the challenge, and then some.
