G. Batson: Smooth Freehand with Plateau
Product Number: 002-568-0007
Rather wild and naturalistic at first glance, yet revealing a strong Danish influence upon closer inspection, I suppose one way to look at a Grant Batson pipe like this is to picture a smooth, graceful, Danish freehand that went to live in the mountains for a decade or so, and has recently returned to town heavily bearded and dressed head-to-toe in bear skins. It's grown a bit rough around the edges, literally, with a long arc of natural plateau sweeping across the underside, but underneath it all there's still that certain eloquence of gesture and form that hints at surprising origins.
