G. Batson: Smooth Sharp-Tooth Snail with Spalted Maple

Product Number: 002-568-0018

While the presence of Blowfish elements in this sweet singularity are undeniable (panels bulging with birdseye, prominent ridge dominating and defining hemispheres, even a fighting spirit created within the arc of the shank and bowl), between such an aggressive fore-tilt to the bowl, turning an otherwise benign tobacco chamber into a voracious maw, and a mollusk-like compression, “Sharp-Tooth Snail” nails this form in a deliciously sinister manner.

Given that Grant Batson, and his brother Cory, have created fine custom guitars of legendary reputation, an exceptional eye for perfect adornment shouldn’t surprise anyone. Having said, I still caught myself marveling at how immaculately the spalted maple complemented both the lighter and darker elements of the briar's finish for a few seconds, before the above realization tapped me on the shoulder. Yeah, my internal sense of “Derp! Derp!” was acute, but not nearly enough to slow my appreciation of the fine pairing.
