Ichi Kitahara: Smooth Wave with Boxwood
Product Number: 002-340-0112
Most any carver who has a signature shape will experiment with lines, flourishes, and elongation (etc.). While always incorporating a beautiful curl, Ichi Kitahara’s “Name”
(Wave) almost never truly repeats the base shape – as far as I know, something that’s unprecedented in a signature. While Ichi has created Waves which presented a front panel before, this is the first one I have run across that features a rocker – almost “surfer” platform. While taking in the graceful, rearward sweep of the primary breaker, also note the reverse curl on the fore of the bowl; another whitecap in the process of following suit. The sense of the relentless power of nature, perfectly conveyed, and without one whit of asymmetry.
