Allow me to get nerdy about a very small thing that makes me love this pipe: the thicker than usual stem. Whenever a batch of estate pipes cross my desk, I can instantly recognize the older pieces by that substantial piece of vulcanite that very slowly tapers to a comfortable button. This Sandblasted Billiard has a stem that could have easily been patterned after a pre-World War II Sasieni or a pre-Double Comfort bit Charatan. That’s a small detail, but I think it’s one that shows us just how deeply Michail Kyriazanos understands the English classics, not to mention how much fun he has exploring their potential for modern interpretations. Of course, the pipe has plenty of other virtues from the pleasingly textured blast to the open draw that is sure to provide a great smoke with your favored leaf.
