Heretofore having seen but one smooth pipe from Nate King; a well done but compact standard shape, I was utterly unprepared to encounter this elegant, pace-setting interpretation of the Elephant’s Foot. The bold, modernist gesture of the shank and the dramatic sweep of the same are impossible to miss, and the generous horn inlay of the bit adds to, rather than distracts from, the shank’s thunder. On the matter of the bowl? Shane, Eric and I agree that much of the cool which is manifest in the hand, doesn’t really show up in the photographs. Between the subtlety of the defining side bevels, their discrete expansion, and continuity of line from the rim of the bowl to the shank – I find this bowl transcendent. Due to standardized angles of the photos, a great deal of the “zing” is lost simply because of vantage. Break through work by Nate King. Highly recommended.
