Nording: Black Grain Smooth Freehand (3)
Product Number: 002-508-2170
I love the way Eric Nording treats briar so expressionistically, carving with such effortless fluidity that it seems to change its consistency to that of modeling clay. The many different effects he achieves vary dramatically from piece to piece, as he moves so deftly from the more classical shapes of, say, his Hunting series, to the wilder, more organic modes of his "Fancy Freehand" shapes. His stains range from smoldering and vibrant to earthy and subdued, with flourishes more uniform, some shamanistic, and still others softly paneled, like the piece you see before you. It's really no wonder that the artisan appeals to such a wide audience of diverse tastes.
