Tsuge Ikebana: Smooth Bent Apple (C)
Product Number: 002-623-4409
A spectacular example of Fukuda's Sixten-inspired shaping tradition, here we find quite the dynamic little bent Apple. If the bowl were any higher, I would be temped to call it a bent Egg. There's a slight cant to the rim that creates the illusion of height when viewed from the side; however, from the smoker's perspective, and in hand as well, it's plump as can be. Its graceful curves and gentle lines extend into the shank through a sweeping transition for an overall sinuous and playful profile. A jet-black saddle stem provides the final touch to the composition — lending an even more slender aesthetic to this masterful work of the pipemaker's art.
