While the prefix of ‘bent’ in the title is a bit borderline, in part, that subtlest of arcs adds scads of softness and hypnotic grace to Asami’s interpretation of the classic, and the gentle upturn of the bowl is simply a continuation of that arc. This Ikebana boasts a ‘D’ Grade, and, again in part, earned its stripes due to... well, ‘stripes’. The grain is sinfully straight on the left of the bowl, a combination of straight and flame on the right and front of the same, and the totality of the underside is awash with brilliant birdseye. Asami’s long held sensibility of tactile comfort being an indispensable aspect to her art is present in every briar that I have handled, and, (oh momma!)
, just holding this Apple imparts a palpable sense of inviting comfort.
