Playing the shape/maker association game at a gathering of pipe smokers, I don't think a man in the room would offer "Tsuge Ikebana" in response to "Calabash". Having said, though fairly rare, Tsuge Ikebana has created some fine Calabashes in the past, and the form continues with this Kikuchi execution of their most popular interpretation. The rim is balanced and features a pronounced dome with a smooth, slender band on the interior. The combination of a proportionally plentiful bowl and diminutive length further enhances this Calabash's sense of compactness, but does so without evoking any hint of the pugnacious - indeed, it's really quite charming.
