One of the most unique and beautifully bizarre shapes that has become a classic signature shape for Will Purdy is this: the Alchemist. It is bulbous on top, pointed on the bottom, and loosely combines two of his other signature shapes (Garlic and Tadpole) to make something utterly desirable and quirky in the best possible way. Sometimes I wonder if, like an Alchemist, Will began to make something else (with the first design nearly a decade ago) and morphed the briar into the form you see before you. Make no mistake, this pipe is no mistake, but something Will has made many times, which added something splendid to his shaping roster. Much like an alchemist experimenting with chemistry and fire to make gold, this is an example when briar became just as gleaming.
