I've seen Adam work quite a number of times by now, so if you're wondering how he consistently makes pipes like this, wonderfully proportioned and beautifully grained; it isn't magic. It's a combination of practice, method, dedication, and as many have pointed out, probably also a good dose of a possible attention-related disorder. Adam's attention pretty much has two settings: super distract-able by the slightest thing, and so focused that one question can get you a twenty minute, in-depth lecture covering every pertinent detail without pause for breath, or a single "um" or "ah". One upside to this is that it is often hilarious. Another is that if you hand him a block of briar and a rod of ebonite, it's a safe bet that they'll be turned into something like, well, this.
